FACES – Portraits of Dignity in the Face of Adversity, - Santa Rosa

APRIL 4, 4-6pm - Opening Reception - Meet the Photographer.
April 3-12 - Open Hours: Fri-Sat, 11am-3pm  & Sun, 11am-2pm
.

This is a Free Pop-up Exhibition of Photographs of our unsheltered
neighbors.

The FACES portraits by Sanchez-Strawbridge highlight the courage & spirit
of people experiencing homelessness who face a daily struggle just to exist
& are often mistakenly criminalized & dehumanized in the public eye.

Author & Photographer William Haigwood spent time exploring & photographing the largest homeless camp in Santa Rosa’s recent history,

a 2-mile stretch of tents & structures along the Joe Rodota Trail in Roseland. Before authorities cleared the 6-month old camp on January 31st, as many as 300 people called the trail home.  Haigwood made some 250 photographs that present a view of the camp’s daily traffic & commerce & the lives lived by its inhabitants.  “I’ve tried to present the human face of this experience,” said Haigwood.  “These are people who, like all of us, are trying to make their way."

Santa Rosa Arts Center a non-profit that was established in 2017, exhibits art year-round in the gallery & hosts monthly literary & musical presentations, as well as classes.  It also offers special performances & arts related pop-up shows that connect the center to the greater Sonoma County arts community.
